Amazon Prime is distributing complimentary gaming NFTs to its subscribers through the Prime gaming portal.
With a monthly subscription fee of $15, users gain access to an assortment of free NFTs accessible on the platform, which can be utilized within the corresponding blockchain games. The offerings range from unique skins to playable characters.
To acquire these rewards, interested participants can peruse the selection of “in-game content” on the website and then proceed to “claim” their desired items.
One of the free packages encompasses an NFT featuring Dawn Striker, a champion from the strategy game Mojo Melee based on the Polygon network. This release marks the second NFT package, following the earlier Gwyn Rockhopper package, presented as part of the six-month collaboration between Amazon and Polygon.
Describing the package, Amazon’s description states, “Dawn Striker’s appearance undergoes a captivating transformation with her exclusive Chroma Skin. Adorned in stunning colors and patterns, she radiates strength and skill on the battlefield.”
Another set of NFTs pertains to the creative PC game Blankos Block Party, including the Twilight Strix Blanko character and the Midnight Crest Helmet. This game has previously engaged in multiple giveaways through Amazon Prime Gaming.
In both game packages, there is also provision for Ore and Blanko Bucks, the native cryptocurrencies specific to each respective game.
Amazon and Gaming
Amazon Prime is renowned for providing exclusive gaming-related perks to its members, which encompass complimentary downloadable games and in-game content. Additionally, Amazon owns Twitch, a widely-used live-streaming platform for gamers, where Prime subscribers are granted a monthly free subscription to a chosen content creator.
Earlier this year, there were reports circulating in various publications about Amazon’s potential launch of its own NFT marketplace, putting it in direct competition with platforms like OpenSea and Rarible. Speculations indicated that the marketplace might feature prominent crypto-native collections like Beeple and Pudgy Penguins. However, as of now, the launch of this initiative has not materialized.
Several gaming companies, including Ubisoft, Konami, and Discord (a popular communication platform for gamers), have expressed a desire to integrate NFTs into the gaming realm. However, these attempts have often been met with resistance from the gaming community, which often perceives such digital assets as ecologically damaging or outright fraudulent.
An example of this was Ubisoft’s Quartz NFT venture in December 2021, which saw minimal sales of only $400 two weeks after its launch. Gamers, including those involved with games like Apex Legends, were swift to criticize the company for its perceived failure in this arena.
