Starknet’s Quantum Leap Upgrade Unleashes High TPS on Ethereum Mainnet
Starknet, the layer-2 scaling protocol, has successfully deployed its highly anticipated Quantum Leap upgrade on the Ethereum mainnet. This update has significantly boosted the network’s transaction speed, achieving as much as 90 transactions per second (TPS). Uri Kolodny, the CEO and co-founder of StarkWare, expressed excitement about surpassing their expectations and breaking the scaling ceiling on Ethereum.
Kolodny emphasized that the upgrade delivered a consistent 37 TPS, with peak moments reaching nearly 100 transfer transactions per second. During the testnet deployment on July 5, Quantum Leap already showcased speeds in triple figures, surpassing the team’s target time-to-inclusion of under 15 seconds. The actual results surpassed expectations, with the vast majority of transactions being included in under 10 seconds.
The increased throughput and faster inclusion of transactions are expected to benefit decentralized finance (DeFi) applications, enabling faster confirmations and smoother user experiences. Additionally, the improved performance opens the door for more realistic AAA-rated games within the Ethereum network.
Eli Ben-Sasson, the president and co-founder of StarkWare, described the Quantum Leap upgrade as a “supercharged power tool” that empowers the community to build previously impossible projects. The short-term impact includes faster and more seamless DeFi and on-chain gaming experiences. In the long run, this development is expected to spur innovation and give rise to transformative projects that redefine how we interact with technology and each other.
