Paris 2024 Olympics: NFT Mascots on Base
These NFTs, launched by nWay, represent the digital pins of the Paris 2024 mascot, celebrating the upcoming Olympic Games.
The NFTs capture the playful spirit and energy of the Olympics with digital collectible items. They come in two designs with two rarity levels: Epic and Legendary. The first design (A) features the Paris 2024 mascot waving, available in both Epic and Legendary rarities. The second design (B) shows the mascot with a flag, also available in both rarity levels.
Claiming the NFTs
There are several ways to request the digital pin NFTs of the Paris 2024 mascot. Requests started on July 9 through Coinbase’s Onchain Summer campaign and will end on August 12. Users can request and redeem the digital badge NFTs on the Magic Eden platform.
Supporters of OGJ and VTG can obtain all four pins, while through the mint on Magic Eden, they can obtain either the Legendary B or the Epic A. The existing nWayPlay (NWP) community and Olympic Games Jam (OGJ) supporters will exclusively receive the Legendary pin with the mascot waving. Users can also request and redeem Epic B through My Olympic™ Rewards using earned points.
For the OGJ/NWP community, a whitelist will be available before July 23, with instructions provided via email. To receive the NFTs, users must use a crypto wallet that supports the Base chain.
The Layer-2 Base
Base is a significant layer-2 solution on Ethereum, designed by Coinbase to make asset transfers simpler and more economical. Coinbase, the largest American crypto exchange, is involved in the initiative, allowing NFT claims through their Onchain Summer campaign. This campaign, which started last year, invites creators to launch projects on Base. Onchain technology enables direct payments with minimal fees, full ownership of digital works, and direct community relationships.
Jesse Pollak, the creator of Base, stated:
“We are more than excited about the launch of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games mascot NFT digital pins as part of Onchain Summer. This drop captures the innovative spirit of Onchain Summer, offering not only a piece of Olympic history but also showcasing the potential of Onchain technology to bring brands closer to their fans. By bringing these NFTs to the community, we aim to create a memorable and unforgettable experience for people all over the world.”
The 2024 Olympics
As part of the Olympic Agenda 2020+5 initiatives, the IOC (International Olympic Committee) has developed a global licensing program to strengthen and promote the Olympic brand. This includes The Olympic Collection, which engages a young audience with unique branded products, such as clothing, toys, games, bags, stationery, and sports equipment. Official merchandise is available on the Olympic Shop website (shop.olympics.com), featuring collectible items and souvenirs.
The Olympic Heritage Collection celebrates the art and design of past Olympic Games, while the Olympic and Paralympic Games collections celebrate upcoming editions, such as Paris 2024, Milano Cortina 2026, and LA28.
